Friday, November 30th, 2007

Just read the blog of my schoolmate Atty. Mel Sta. Maria and I believe he has written an opinion which is akin to what most people feel right now.  Check out his post on the MAKATI PUTSCHIST

PICS GMM and Christmas: Almost ruined by the aborted coup

Friday, November 30th, 2007

I was working on something important the other evening that by 8am yesterday I still have not slept a wink. I received a text message from Jayjay reagrding the additional tent to be ordered since the rains have not stopped.

Trish was also asking me if the PICS event will push through considering the rains. By 9am I was knocked out in bed and just woke up around noon. Opened my tv and there seemed to be some commotion which I couldnt understand then. I opened the local news online and piecing everything together I realized Trillianes and company had again took over another plush establishment and this time its the Peninsula.

Someone reminded me that this seemed a de ja vu since the first time it happened, the oakwood incident, PICS also had a major event together with the European Chamber of Commerce at Westin.  Sen. Kiko Pangilinan was supposed to grace the ocassion but all the senators were asked to stay put by the majority speaker then.

Now its him again!  I called my office in  and we communicated via skype as I didnt want to go to makati anymore.  I monitored them online while I watched the unfolding of everything on tv.

By 4pm I just needed to leave for Ortigas since I anticipated bad traffic.  Trish from CICT kept confirming if it will push through and I said yes.  Traffic was bad, yes but it was not only bad, it was horrible!  It took me close to three hours to reach the destination.  I was on the phone with Mon a couple of times since he was worried that the people are all late due to the traffic and rains plus of course the makati stand-off.

I arrived maybe close to 7pm just in the nick of time, as our special guest CICT Secretary Ray Anthony Roxas-Chua appeared after just two minutes.

After a couple more minutes more guests kept trickling in.  The tent which arrived was not as big as ordered so we all just occupied the Coffee Bean and Tea reserved just for PICS. Too bad we were not able to use the whole stage prepared by Jayjay and her jobsdb group.

Nevertheless, the show went on with the geeks, guests and members as you can see from the photos below.
img_0156.JPG  No he is not a geek who came in shorts, its our resident blogger and director Mike Abundo together with online marketing specialist Hans.

img_0154.JPG  Edna and I posed for a photo with Secretary Roxas-Chua who was supposed to be our inducting officer at our first GMM at Manila Peninsula.  Some guys were saying it was good we already had our EVENT   at the Pen before the tanks destroyed the lobby :)

img_0169.JPG Sec. Roxas-Chua discussed his programs and projects for his term which are the following:

  1. Cyber Corridor
  2. E Government
  3. Human Capital Development
  4. Proposed Legislation - Cyber Crime Bill and DICT

img_0172.JPG State Prosecutor Geronimo Sy took an early dinner while the program was going on since he couldnt stay long but he spoke briefly to the group explaining what to do in case any of us what caught outside during the curfew.  Of course I got his business card to show any apprehender in case I get caught up in the traffic later than past 12am.

img_0174.JPG After the presentation of the Secretary, Atty Teddy Kalaw, our EVP and emcee that evening, called on Mon Lizardo, current PICS president and myself to give a copy of the PICS book.

I then gave the closing remarks then announced that dinner was served.

img_0176.JPGimg_0175.JPG  We had so much fun but was not able to give away the raffle prizes anymore since it was kinda late and after dinner some of us were kinda wary of that Curfew thing so had to head home.

I really wanted to attend the grand PASASALAMAT event of PLDT at the NBC tent. The grand prize is a car but I knew if I did that  I wont be able to reach home before curfew.

There was a street party which started when we finished our event.  There were bands and lots of people on the streets partying.  No can cared anylonger for the brouhaha in makati.

As some foreign online news mentioned, the middle class of the country had been jaded after several coup attempts that no amount of  request to join their cause will move them or rather us :)

The continous rains, the party feeling due to the long weekend, the christmas air, all contributed to the poor timing of this failed attempt.

Too much activities, too little time

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

Since I arrived from the US,  life has been a truly hectic.  I arrived on the week of the long holiday so at least I was able to rest a bit after the All Saints day event.  I found out however that the annual Power of Natural Healing Conference of PCAM was going to be held the following week so I immediately signed up.  The first part was a four day seminar on various Alternative Healing presentations. The second was a one day thing on autism which I didnt attend so had time to visit our office.  The last part was a one week training on the TKM method or using hands to cure ailments.  The last day of the workshop was yesterday, Saturday but due to a previous commitment, which is the all important annual college reunion in Tagaytay, I wasnt able to attend it.

Actually I spent last night and today uploading the photos of my ateneo reunion to my Multiply site.

I took a much needed rest today so I will be able to start normally with work tomrrow plus review  all my pending projects and there are a lot!
